NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A video captured a large gathering of Orthodox Jews in Borough Park amid a spike in the coronavirus infection rate in the Brooklyn neighborhood.
The video shows the large group not adhering to safety measuring including social distancing or masks.
The purpose of the gathering was unclear.
One person posted a video on Twitter saying: "So much for social distancing was taken in borough park Brooklyn 30 mins ago!!"
The gathering took place hours after Mayor Bill de Blasio announced at his daily press briefing that the city's daily coronavirus infection rate was more than 3 percent.
"The fact is, for the first time in quite a while, the daily number is over 3 percent and that is cause for concern," de. Blasio said. "We have not seen a day like that in quite a while. We do not want to see days like that."
Nine zip codes in Brooklyn and Queens have driven the daily positivity rate up to 3.25 percent, the highest rate since early June, the mayor added.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Tuesday that he would be meeting with members of the Orthodox Jewish communities to address the cluster issue.
"If you look at those clusters and you look at those zip odes, you see there's a large overlap with large Orthodox Jewish communities, and that is a fact," Cuomo said.
"This is a concern for their community, a public health concern for their community," he added. "It's also a public health concern for surrounding communities."
