LAKEWOOD, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- It's another measles exposure warning, this time from the New Jersey Health Department.

A city resident with a confirmed case spent the afternoon of April 22, at the Sky Zone Trampoline Park in South Plainfield. The next day, the same person was at the River 978 Banquet Hall in Lakewood.

The health department says if you were there at those times, you should check in with your doctor.

Measles numbers have soared in 2019, reaching totals not seen since the mid 1990s, with over 700 people infected. Much of the outbreak has been centered in Rockland County and Brooklyn.

A recent scare has even left a ship, reportedly owned by the Church of Scientology, quarantined in Port St. Lucia, over word that someone on board may have measles.

The outbreak has mostly hit people who are not vaccinated. Measles is one of the most highly contagious viruses in the world. If an unvaccinated person is exposed, they have a 90 percent chance of contracting the disease.

Measles can cause a rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, red, watery eyes, and serious health complications including pneumonia and encephalitis. In pregnant women the disease can result in miscarriage, premature birth, or low birth weight.
