NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A medical student also working as a taxi driver was viciously attacked, beat, and slashed in the face in the Bronx earlier this month, officials said Thursday.
Raymond Adjetey picked the passenger up on 184th Street and Jerome Avenue at around 10:11 p.m., police said.
Adjetey told the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers that the passenger was on the phone arguing with a woman and insisted that Adjetey take him to various locations.
Raymond took the passenger to the address given to him by the passenger. The passenger insisted that he was at the wrong place.
Upon arrival to their third location at Tracey Towers apartment building, located at 40 W Mosholu Pkwy, the passenger asked Adjetey to continue to a different location.
When Adjetey refused, he was attacked, the NYSFTD said.
According to a GoFundMe page set up on behalf of Raymond, the passenger took an orange box cutter knife from his pocket and threatened to stab him.
Raymond proceeded to the passenger's third address as he proceeded to insult and threaten Adjetey who suffered a laceration to his face.
The NYSFTD said Adjetey has undergone surgery but will have to undergo more and he will likely have scarring for life.
They are calling for the city to do more to protect TLC drivers from attacks.
"There was no provocation, no reason for this man to take action on Raymond," said Fernando Mateo spokesman for the NYSFTD. "Once again, we call on the NYPD to communicate with the TLC and use the texting technology that can get images or descriptions out to thousands of Livery Cab drivers roaming the streets."
"We can get these criminals off the streets, what are we waiting for? If we deputized drivers into the auxiliary force, they can be the eyes and ears of all New Yorkers that encounter dangerous people in NYC," Mateo added.
The incident is currently under investigation by the NYPD.
