NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The MTA is officially introducing the successor to the MetroCard Friday as the tap-to-pay OMNY system debuts in 16 subway stations and Staten Island buses.

The system will appear at 16 lines of the 4, 5 and 6 trains between Grand Central - 42nd Street and Atlantic Avenue - Barclays Center.

OMNY allows New Yorkers to use their credit card, phone or a designated card to pay for subway or bus rides.

Currently the technology is only available for pay-per-ride users and not weekly or monthly unlimiated users.

Full implementation is planned by the end of 2020.

Riders will be able to start an account with the MTA, where they'll be able to track or dispute payments.

OMNY stands for One Metro New York.

The MTA hosted a first-tap event Friday afternoon at the Bowling Green station.

More information can be found on the OMNY website.
