NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes will miss the rest of the 2019 season after undergoing ankle surgery, the team announced Thursday.

Cespedes had the surgery after he suffered multiple fractures to his right ankle following an accident Saturday at his ranch in Port St. Lucie, Florida, team general manager Brodie Van Wagenen had said on Monday.

"He had a violent fall in which he stepped in a hole and put his leg and foot in a difficult position," Van Wagenen said at a press conference Monday.

Cespedes, 33, was initially evaluated at the Hospital for Special Surgery.

Cespedes has yet to play this season after undergoing surgery on both heels. He hasn't played since last July. He is in the third season of a four-year, $110 million contract.
