More than 24 scammers arrested for Santander ATM thefts in NJ: report

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- More than two dozen people have been arrested in connection with thefts at Santander Bank ATM machines across New Jersey, according to a report.

Sources told NJ.com thieves stole “tens of thousands of dollars” from Santander ATMs in places including Boonton, Randolph, Montville and Robbinsville.

An ATM glitch may have allowed the thieves to withdraw money using prepaid debit cards, according to the outlet.

Two sources told NJ.com the thieves “appear to be loosely connected through social media.” Scams also took place in Connecticut and in Brooklyn, the outlet reported.

A Santander Bank spokeswoman told the outlet the bank is “cooperating with law enforcement as they actively investigate this situation.”
