SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A New Jersey mother died Tuesday from the coronavirus just hours after the virus possibly claimed the life of her daughter.
Rhoda Ruiz, 70, was hospitalized a week ago after being diagnosed with COVID-19, according to a report from NBC 4 New York.
Daughter Amanda Ruiz, 33, who suffered from diabetes, began "getting sick and throwing up" on Sunday.
An ambulance was called for Amanda, but responding EMT's said she refused to go to the hospital.
Amanda's sister, Jessia Ingaglio, warned the EMTs that her sister may have been exposed after their mother and father both tested positive.
Ingaglio fear's her sister may have contracted the virus from her parents although her cause of death is unclear and she had not been tested for the virus.
Amanda was found dead in their home on Monday.
Ingaglio informed her mother and father over the phone about Amanda's death.
Ingaglio's mother died on Tuesday, the report adds.
"The only hope I have out of this is that, she knew Amanda was gone and she needed to be with her daughter," Ingaglio told NBC 4 New York.
Currently, New Jersey has the second-highest number of positive cases.
