NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A shocking report on overtime pay at the MTA has triggered an investigation.

The New York Post says MTA Chairman Pat Foye has ordered a crackdown on overtime abuse at the Long Island Rail Road after new data showed workers are raking in massive paychecks.

A source confirmed to 1010 WINS that the investigation will look at safety and discrimination concerns related to payment as well.

“The workers who get the most overtime are largely senior and not a diverse group,” the source noted.

A report finds the LIRR shelled out over $224 million for overtime in 2018, up nearly $50 million from the previous year.

The investigation comes as the MTA prepares to begin contract negotiations with the LIRR workers' union. A spokesman for the Cuomo administration says the MTA must rein in "the spending that has led to its dire financial situation."
