NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Another MTA time clock was discovered damaged for the second time in a week, prompting the MTA inspector general to launch an investigation into the “sabotage.”

MTA Inspector General Carolyn Pokorny said she was investigating the “apparent act of vandalism” at the MTA 38th Street train yard and facility in Sunset Park on Friday.

The NYPD is also investigating, according to the MTA.

“For the second time in one week, MTA time-keeping equipment used to ensure accountability and honesty has been vandalized,” Pokorny said in a statement Saturday.

“Riders and taxpayers deserve to have a modern system in place in place to effectively verify when workers arrive at the job, and clock out at the end of their shift. We will not be intimidated by illegal acts of sabotage that are only designed to undermine our efforts to ensure accountability across the MTA and protect taxpayer dollars from misuse,” the statement read.

A similar incident occurred at Jamaica Terminal on June 5. Someone allegedly sabotaged one of the LIRR’s new biometric timekeeping clocks by cutting an Ethernet cord.

Biometric clocks require employees to use their fingerprints to check in and out.

The MTA began using them over concerns about overtime abuse.

Pokorny said the outdated punch-card systems are the most vulnerable to misuse.

The MTA Inspector General is asking anyone with knowledge of the incident to call: 1-800-MTA-IG4U (1-800-682-4448).
