NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The MTA will adopt the plan outlined earlier this month by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to avert an L train shutdown, the transportation agency announced Thursday.

"We are moving forward with the new plan and will be regularly briefing the board, public officials and our customers," MTA spokesman Shams Tarek told The New York Post

In a letter to commuters, the MTA said, "The total shutdown of both tunnels and all service scheduled for April 27 will not be necessary. We do anticipate a shutdown of one tube on nights and weekends, however service both ways (between Manhattan and Brooklyn) would be scheduled 24/7."

The letter continues, "We expect the formulation of the final construction schedule and contract completions to take several weeks. The current construction estimate is 15 to 20 months."
