NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A chain-reaction crash on the Long Island Expressway Tuesday morning injured five people, one seriously, police say.
According to Suffolk County Police detectives, the five-vehicle crash occurred in Commack at approximately 7 a.m. on the westbound side of the expressway.
Police say Lonnie Garrett was driving a 2012 Toyota Highlander westbound on the Long Island Expressway, near exit 53 when his vehicle rear-ended a 2004 Honda CRV, driven by 67-year-old Eduardo Turcios.
The collision caused a chain-reaction with three other vehicles: a 2008 Chrysler Pacifica, a 2016 Mercedes 350 and a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee, officials say.
Turcios was airlifted via Suffolk County Police Helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital after suffering serious injuries, police say.
