NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Chaos unfolded at an East Harlem apartment building this morning as officers grappled with a combative man, reportedly naked, who was trying to stop them from entering a burning apartment where another man was found dead with stab wounds, police said.

The NYPD said officers were responding to a 911 call about a fire at Acacia Gardens on E. 120th Street around 4:20 a.m. when they found the 31-year-old man in a hallway on the ninth floor.

According to the New York Post, the 31-year-old man was naked at the time of his arrest.

The man and five NYPD officers suffered smoke inhalation; they are all expected to be OK.

Citizen App video shows a heavy police and fire presence at the scene with dozens of bystanders watching on.

After the FDNY extinguished the fire, officers went into the apartment and found a 30-year-old man dead with multiple stabbed wounds, police said.

The NYPD said charges against the 31-year-old man were pending amid an investigation into the homicide and fire.

The 30-year-old man who died has not been identified. His relationship to the other man is not known.
