CORONAVIRUS ON LONG ISLAND: 'These numbers are sobering' Nassau total cases over 12,000, death toll at 138

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Nassau County Executive Laura Curran reported on Friday, the biggest increase that the county has had of positive cases with an increase of 1,437 cases for a total of 12, 024 cases countywide. 

Curran also reported 43 new cases in Nassau County, bringing the total coronavirus related fatalities to 138.


There were 29 men and 14 women between the ages of 33 through 93 that died Curran said.

"These numbers are sobering," Curran said. "We are on the upswing of the curve. We have not reached apex yet."

Gov. Andrew Cuomo called the rise in cases of coronavirus in Nassau and Suffolk counties as "troubling news" during his briefing on Thursday.

Cuomo said on Friday that more than 100,000 people in the state have tested positive for the coronavirus and that deaths surged by nearly 600 from Thursday to Friday, bringing the state total to 2,935.
