New Union Turnpike bridge over Grand Central Parkway to open Friday

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The newly-constructed eastbound Union Turnpike bridge over the Grand Central Parkway has been completed and will be opening to the public Friday morning, the Department of Transportation announced on Thursday.

Beginning at midnight, the bridge will be open to the public, and the existing eastbound Union Turnpike bridge over the Grand Central Parkway, just west of the new bridge, will be removed.

The new Union Turnpike overpass is part of NYSDOT’s $365 million Kew Gardens Interchange Phase 4 project and is the second bridge completed to date.

The first bridge was part of the exit ramp from the westbound Grand Central Parkway to westbound Union Turnpike/Queens Boulevard.Inclement weather could, however, cause delays in the opening of the bridge, forcing it to be rescheduled.Like 1010 WINS on Facebook and follow @1010WINS on Twitter to get breaking news, traffic, and weather for New York City.
