NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The mayor of Hoboken is asking residents to shelter in place and adopt a policy of "self-isolation," -- the first city in the Tri-State to make such a drastic suggestion in order to help slow the spread of coronavirus.
Mayor Ravi Bhalla also issued a curfew for the mile-square city on Monday night to help curb COVID-19.
"We have a responsibility to one another ... we must do everything we can, and we must do it now," Bhalla said in a press conference Tuesday afternoon. "I shutter at the thought of what we could've done ... before our region becomes the next Italy before it's too late. It would be the mistake of our generation."
Bhalla is aggressively encouraging social-distancing by restricting public gatherings to just five people - as opposed to the 50 people mandate imposed by Tri-State governors.
He will be answering questions via Facebook town hall later Wednesday afternoon.
On Tuesday, Gov. Phil Murphy said there were there are 267 cases in the New Jersey - a 5-year-old girl was among them.
