TRENTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Gov. Phil Murphy on Tuesday announced that the state will allow socially distanced outdoor graduations beginning July 6.

"Beginning July 6th, schools WILL have the opportunity to hold outdoor graduation ceremonies that comply with social distancing – ensuring the health and safety of all in attendance," Murphy said.

Professional sports teams in New Jersey may return to training, and even training for competition if leagues choose to.

"Professional sports teams in NJ may return to training and even competition – if their leagues choose to move in that direction. We have been in constant discussions with teams about necessary protocols to protect the health and safety of players, coaches, and personnel," he said.

Murphy reported 703 new cases, bringing the statewide total to 155,764.

Hudson and Bergen counties hold the highest number of cases in the state with 18,096 and 17,963.

He also reported an additional 54 deaths on Tuesday, bringing the statewide total to 11,191.

Murphy warned residents that the low number of new positive cases and deaths being reporting may be due to a delay in reporting over the holiday weekend.

The governor also announced that the US Department of Transportation Federal Railroad Administration is awarding $91.5 million to Amtrak and to NJ Transit to move the Portal Bridge project forward.

"This is a huge win for our state, our commuters, the future of our economy, and our entire nation," Murphy said.
