A video that was apparently shared to social media shows a member of the Memorial High School baseball team bound, gagged, and dragged around a field by other players.

“It’s abhorrent to see this type of behavior in our school system,” said Mayor Felix Roque.

Roque told NJ.com that the incident was reported by a staff member who asked to remain anonymous for fear of reprisal.

“I have zero tolerance for this kind of behavior,” said Roque.

Superintendent Clara Brito Herrera issued a statement on Tuesday, telling parents that a 'bullying/hazing' incident had taken place and that the board of education was taking the complaint seriously.

The team's Wednesday night game was rescheduled due to 'logistical issues' an official at opponent North Bergen said.

Memorial High School Athletic Director John Fraraccio said he could not discuss the incident. West New York police had not returned a request for comment from NJ.com.

The alleged hazing in West New York follows similar incidents in Sayreville and Schalick High School that resulted in the cancellation of football and wrestling seasons.

Roque is asking the board of ed to implement more supervision in and out of the classroom, and said any teachers not following protocol will be held responsible.
