NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York Attorney General Letitia James on Wednesday asked a federal court to halt the Trump administration's efforts to "dismantle" the United States Postal Service.
James in August led a coalition of states including New Jersey and New York in filing a lawsuit claiming President Donald Trump has been trying to disrupt USPS operations in an attempt to "undermine" the upcoming presidential election.
On Wednesday, she asked a federal court in Washington, D.C. to grant a preliminary injunction to stop Trump, the USPS and Postmaster General Louis DeJoy from what her office described as "continuing down the path of slowing mail operations in lead up to Election Day."
"We know President Trump's ultimate goal here is to depress turnout and disenfranchise millions of voters," James said in a statement.
"The president's actions are the same as those used in dictatorships and authoritarian governments, but we won't sit idly by as he tries to suppress democracy and every American's fundamental right to vote," she added.
Trump in August admitted that he was trying to keep funding from the USPS in an effort to stymie universal mail-in voting.
