NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – New York state's coronavirus infection rate, hospitalizations and ICU patients all declined to new lows on Saturday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said.
The governor said the percentage of people tested who were positive for the virus dropped to 0.69, a record low.
Of the 94,849 tests reported Friday, 653 came back positive—0.69 percent. The 653 new cases bring the state's total to 429,165 confirmed cases.
It's the 15th straight day that the state's infection rate has stayed below 1 percent.
Hospitalizations for the virus dropped to 483, the lowest number since March 16, while the number of patients in ICUs dropped to 116, the lowest since March 15.
"Yesterday we had the lowest test positivity rate, lowest hospitalizations and lowest ICU patients since the middle of March," Cuomo said in a statement. "This shows that protecting public health and reopening our economy aren't mutually exclusive if done the right way, and record-high testing doesn't equal more positive tests."
The number of people intubated also matched a previous low of 56.
Four more deaths were reported, bringing the state's death toll to 25,282.
Cuomo also announced that the State Liquor Authority and State Police Task Force visited 1,553 establishments in New York City and Long Island and found 8 establishments that weren't in compliance with state COVID requirements. There were six in Manhattan, one in Queens and one in Suffolk.
