NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – New York saw new lows on its coronavirus numbers again Sunday, with the state reporting its lowest number of hospitalizations, ICU patients and intubations since the pandemic began in mid-March.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said hospitalizations on Saturday had dropped to 472, a new low since March 16, while the number of ICU patients dropped to 110, a new low since March 15. Hospitalizations declined by 11 patients since Friday, while ICU patients declined by six patients.
Intubations also reached their lowest level since mid-March on Saturday, dropping to 50 patients intubated, a decline of six patients from Friday.
Cuomo said the percentage of people positive for the virus was below 1 percent for the 16th straight day.
Out of the 74,043 people tested Saturday, 572 were positive. That's a positivity rate of 0.77 percent, up slightly from Friday's 0.69 percent.
The 572 new cases bring the statewide total to 429,737 confirmed cases.
There were five more deaths on Saturday. The state's death toll is now 25,288.
Cuomo said no new deaths were reported in New York City, Long Island or Westchester, however one death was reported in Ulster.
"New Yorkers should be proud that their hard work and discipline led to another day of record low numbers," Cuomo said in a statement. "Our hospitalizations, intubations and people in the ICU are the lowest they've been since mid-March -- that's a real achievement."
But the governor warned "this virus is still surging in parts of the country and until there is a vaccine, we cannot become numb or complacent about the risks we face."
Cuomo also announced the State Liquor Authority and State Police Task Force visited 1,446 establishments in New York City and Long Island on Saturday and found 13 establishments that were not in compliance with state COVID requirements. Ten of them were in Brooklyn and three were in Queens.
