NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York state law enforcement agencies slapped drivers with more than 21,000 speeding tickets during a week-long "enforcement blitz" earlier this month, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Friday.
State Police officers and other law enforcement officials issued 21,428 speeding tickets between Aug. 6 and Aug. 12, Cuomo said in a release.
Officers also issued 30,273 tickets for violations including impaired driving and distracted driving, he said.
"Speeding can have grave consequences and lead to avoidable and needless tragedy," he said in a statement. "We have zero tolerance for reckless driving in New York and make no mistake: dangerous drivers will be caught and will be held accountable."
