NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York state reported five new COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday as its infection rate stayed below 1 percent, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.
One of the five people who passed away died in the Bronx; two died in Brooklyn; one died in Manhattan and one died in Westchester County, bringing the state's death toll to 25,437, Cuomo said in a release.
Of the 70,930 COVID-19 test results that came back on Tuesday, 655, or 0.94 percent, were positive, he said.
New York City reported 280 new cases; Rockland County reported 63 new cases; Nassau County reported 63 new cases; Westchester County reported 37 new cases; and Suffolk County reported 32 new cases, according to the release.
As of Tuesday, 490 people in the state were hospitalized with COVID-19, 141 of whom were in intensive care and 68 of whom were on ventilators.
"New York's most powerful tools in the fight against COVID-19 are the actions each of us take to slow the spread," Cuomo said in a statement. "When you wear a mask, socially distance and wash your hands, you're protecting other New Yorkers, not just yourself."
