NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – New York reported over 800 new coronavirus cases and two more deaths on Saturday as the state's infection rate stayed under 1%, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Sunday.
The 862 new cases were out of 100,355 tests done on Saturday—an infection rate of 0.86%.
The state's infection rate has stayed under 1% since Tuesday after it briefly spiked to 1.04% on Monday, breaking a 38-day streak.
"Our numbers continue to look good, and our infection rate is again below 1%," Cuomo said in a statement Sunday.
There were two more deaths Saturday—one person in Queens and another person in Suffolk.
The state has now seen a total of 449,900 coronavirus cases and 25,427 deaths since the pandemic began.
There were 486 people hospitalized Saturday, one more than on Friday. Among those patients, 132 were in intensive care and 60 were intubated.
Cuomo warned residents to continue to wear face coverings, practice social distancing and wash their hands as the pandemic heads into the fall.
"With flu season approaching it's especially critical we remain vigilant," he said.
The governor also announced that the State Liquor Authority and State Police Task Force visited 1,585 establishments in New York City and Long Island on Saturday and found seven establishments that were not in compliance with state COVID requirements. They included four businesses in Nassau, one in Manhattan, one in Brooklyn and one in the Bronx.
