NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The number of confirmed coronavirus deaths in New York state surpassed 25,000, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.
Nine people in the state died from the virus Tuesday, bringing the state's death toll to 25,003, the governor said in a press release.
There were 831 new coronavirus cases reported Wednesday. The state's total number of cases is now 404,006.
There were 831 patients hospitalized, including 94 newly admitted patients, on Tuesday. The number of patients in intensive care was 165, with 94 patients intubated.
Of the 63,598 people tested in statewide Tuesday, 831, or 1.30 percent, were positive, Cuomo said.
In recent days, the governor has warned that cases coming from coronavirus hotspot states could lead to an increase of cases in New York.
On Tuesday, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut added four more states to their quarantine list: Minnesota, New Mexico, Ohio and Wisconsin.
"New Yorkers brought the curve down by making big changes, and we see that work reflected in the numbers every day," Cuomo said in his statement Wednesday. "But we must continue to be smart - by wearing a mask, social distancing and washing our hands, we all have a role to play in protecting the progress we've made and leading the rest of the nation by example. We cannot go back to the hell we experienced three months ago, so please stay vigilant and New York Tough."
