NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The city cleared a homeless encampment in Prospect Park after 1010 WINS brought it to Mayor Bill de Blasio's attention on Monday.

A city resident reported the encampment to 311 five times, to no avail. The local police precincts in Brooklyn said it was “not a police matter," according to the resident.

Asked about the encampment during his briefing on Monday, de Blasio said myriad city agencies, including the Department of Homeless Services, the Department of Sanitation, the NYPD and the Parks Department, are involved in dealing with homeless encampments.

“Of course it is a police matter,” he said. “Certainly, I want to know why 311 didn’t respond more effectively.”

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the mayor confirmed that the Prospect Park encampment had been taken down.
