NEW YORK (1010 WINS/AP) -- New York City Council voted on Tuesday afternoon to ban flavored vaping products.
The ban includes all e-cigarette and e-liquid flavors except tobacco.
The Council voted 42-2. The ban goes into effect July 1.
The vote comes after a Manhattan man in his 30s was confirmed as the second vaping-related death in New York by the Department of Health.
The City Council Health Committee on Monday voted unanimously in favor of the ban that would ban the sale of all flavored e-cigs and liquids except tobacco.
Backers of the ban said they were acting to protect young people whose use of e-cigarettes has surged in recent years. Democratic City Council member Mark Levine said there is "no higher obligation'' than protecting the health of kids.
Supporters of the vaping industry jeered and threw fake dollar bills from the balcony of the City Council chamber after the vote.
Mayor Bill de Blasio has said he supports the ban and will either sign the legislation into law or let it take effect automatically.
