NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York City’s unemployment rate dropped slightly between June and July, but the five boroughs also had 714,700 fewer jobs in July than they did at the same time last year, data released by the state Department of Labor shows.
The city had a 19.8 percent unemployment rate in July, down from 20.3 percent in June, the data shows. New York state’s unemployment rate ticked up slightly, from 15.6 percent in June to 15.9 percent in July.

A total of 1,527,800 New York state residents were unemployed in July, up by 60,000 from June, when 1,467,800 residents were unemployed, the department said.
And while New York state added 244,200 private sector jobs between June and July, the state still had 1,184,500 fewer private sector jobs this past July than it did in July 2019, according to the data.
New York City, meanwhile, had 714,700 fewer private sector and government jobs this past July than it did in July 2019, the data shows.
