Jennifer Welch Demski says she woke up to her then-boyfriend forcing himself on her, one summer morning in 2015.
When she learned that he'd allegedly done something similar to another woman, she reported the assault.
Demski said the sergeant and officer she spoke to with the NYPD didn't take her seriously and classified the complaint as a dispute before showing her the door.
She and another woman, Alison Turkos, are filing a lawsuit against the NYPD alleging that it's an old boys club that fails the victims of sex assault.
Turkos said she was assaulted by three men when she fell asleep in a Lyft. It allegedly happened in October 2017, when she says the driver kidnapped her, took her to a New Jersey park, and raped her at gunpoint with two other men.
The suit alleges that the FBI took over the case and found that cops mishandled the investigation.
In 2018, there were 74 investigators handling 5,661 sex complaints. By comparison there were 101 investigators assigned to 282 homicides.
"In other words, investigators carried caseloads of approximately two to three homicides over the course of the year. Approximately 90 percent of all adult sexual assault victims in New York City are women. Approximately 77.8 percent of all homicide victims in the United States are male," the suit says.
So far, there's been no comment from the NYPD.
