NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – An NYPD officer was kicked so hard by a burglary suspect on Sunday that his leg was broken, police say.

Two officers were investigating a burglary at a Duane Reade near Amsterdam Avenue and West 91st Street on the Upper West Side shortly before 5 a.m. when they confronted two suspects.

Some sort of altercation unfolded and one of the suspects kicked one of the officers in the leg to escape.

The force of the kick was so strong that the officer’s leg was broken and he had to be hospitalized.

The New York Post reports he went into surgery Sunday morning for the broken tibia.

One of the suspects was still on the loose Sunday evening. The other suspect was taken into custody.

The Post reports that the suspect on the run is a man and the suspect taken into custody is a woman.
