NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Around 60 Metro-North passengers “self-evacuated” onto the tracks at Grand Central on Wednesday morning as an emotionally disturbed woman acted out on a train, officials said.
The commotion unfolded around 8:20 a.m. aboard a train from New Canaan, according to MTA spokesman Tim Minton.
The train was approaching the station platform when the 30-year-old woman “began acting irrationally,” the MTA said.
Another passenger feared for their safety and pulled the emergency cord, which stopped the train about 100 yards from the platform.
Roughly 60 passengers then decided to self-evacuate and climbed out of the train onto the tracks, the MTA said.
MTA Police arrived at the scene and escorted dozens of passengers to the platform. No one was injured, officials said.
The woman was taken into custody for a psych evaluation. No charges have been filed against her.
The MTA said service was briefly delayed and has since returned to normal.
