NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The NYPD has arrested a Connecticut man in Manhattan after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend more than 30 times and kidnapped her 6-year-old son in Massachusetts.
Edgar Manuel Maldonado, 23, was arrested on a fugitive warrant in Midtown Wednesday morning.
Hartford Police Lt. Paul Cicero said Maldonado was apprehended at a McDonald's after a cooperating witness was able to get his location for police.
Maldonado faces charges of attempt to commit murder, assault, kidnapping and risk of injury to a minor.
His girlfriend was in stable but critical condition after undergoing emergency surgery for her dozens of stab wounds.
Police say Maldonado repeatedly stabbed her in a car in Worcester, Massachusetts, on early Tuesday morning before taking off with her son.
Police issued a nationwide alert for the boy, who was found unharmed in Worcester a few hours later.
According to the Telegram & Gazette, a passerby found the child wandering down a street after he was abandoned.
