NEW VIDEO: NYPD releases bodycam footage of cop pulling down protester's mask, pepper-spraying him

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD on Tuesday released body camera footage that shows a police officer pulling off a man’s mask and pepper-spraying him during an anti-police brutality protest last month.

The incident took place on May 30 — five days after George Floyd’s death — and can be seen happening around seven minutes and 30 seconds into the NYPD footage.

The officer who pepper sprayed the protester has been suspended without pay, the NYPD said. His case “has been referred to the Department Advocate for disciplinary action,” the department added.

Police released the footage hours after Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a new policy requiring the NYPD to post body camera footage online within 30 days of serious or fatal police-involved incidents.
