NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – An investigation is underway into a deadly shooting involving an off-duty NYPD officer on Long Island.
Nassau Police said the shooting happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday in front of a home on Langdon Road in Farmingdale.
When officers arrived, they found a 25-year-old man dead with gunshot wounds, police said.
A source with knowledge of the investigation confirmed the shooting involved an off-duty NYPD officer; he was not injured.
At Mayor Bill de Blasio's daily briefing, NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said the off-duty officer discharged his firearm and that "an individual was struck in the head and killed."
WABC reported that police believe the 25-year-old was unarmed. He and the officer reportedly had a prior dispute.
The officer, said to be a rookie with the NYPD, was being questioned. It's unclear what role he may have played in the shooting.
No arrests have been reported.
