NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Optimum service is returning to customers after a major outage knocked out internet, cable and phone services for thousands of people in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut late Friday into Saturday.

Customers raged on social media as the outage began to erupt around 7:30 p.m. Friday.

“Service is starting to come back online. Thank you again for your patience as our technical teams work towards full restoration,” Optimum said early Saturday morning.

Altice USA, which owns Optimum, said the company has been working “to identify the root cause and resolve the situation.”

The Down Detector outage map still showed outages across the region Saturday afternoon.

Customers from across the tri-state continued to report their service was out as of 2 p.m. "Still no internet," a customer named John wrote. "Its been like 15 hours."

Meanwhile, several police departments took to social media to tell panicked people to stop calling them to report internet and TV outages.

Several police departments took to social media to tell panicked people to stop calling them to report internet and TV outages.

“@FPDCT does not have info related to service restoration & does not handle outage notifications,” Fairfield police tweeted.

“Please don’t tie up our lines to ask when your TV will come back on. We need those free for actual emergencies,” Ossining wrote on Facebook.

"Optimum/Altice is aware of the service outage. Please do not call 911 to report the service disruption," Stamford police tweeted.
