Trump threatens to step in as over 50 people shot across NYC over the weekend

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Over 50 people were shot across the city over the weekend, police said as an increase in gun violence continues.

From midnight on Friday to midnight Monday morning 51 people were shot in at least 39 shootings NYPD data shows.


President Donald Trump tweeted at NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio about the uptick in gun violence, Sunday night.

"Law and Order. If @NYCMayor can't do it, we will!"

Seven of those victims were killed including, 28-year-old John Jeff Jr., an off-duty Rikers Island correction officer shot and killed in Queens early Saturday.

Jeff was repeatedly shot and found him unconscious with gunshot wounds to his head and torso, officials said.

He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Jeff was leaving a party at the time he was shot.

A 40-year-old man was shot on the subway platform at Grand Central Station Saturday afternoon. The suspect has since been arrested, officials announced on Monday.

According to police, another five people were shot early Monday.

Four men were shot in Cypress Hills and another man was shot in the Upper West Side, officials said.

All victims were transported to area hospitals and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
