NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A portion of Flatbush Avenue in downtown Brooklyn was closed off Monday afternoon for less than two hours, after police descended upon the area because of a suspicious item, police confirmed to 1010 WINS.

The bomb squad was called in to investigate the suspicious box, the NYPD told 1010 WINS.

The incident was first reported around 3 p.m., according to Citizen App. Before 5 p.m., the scene was given the all-clear.

"Due to police activity, expect road closures and a heavy presence of emergency personnel near Flatbush Avenue from Myrtle Avenue to Tillary Street, Brooklyn. Consider alternate routes and allow for additional travel time," tweeted the city's Emergency Management Office.
