
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A pedestrian was fatally struck by a Long Island Rail Road train Wednesday afternoon, the LIRR said.The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Commercial Street.
According to a tweet from the LIRR, "an unauthorized person on the tracks was struck by a train near Bethpage."
Train service was suspended between Hicksville and Ronkonkoma but later restored with delays.
Police and are on the scene and an investigation is ongoing.
The LIRR said they are in the process of securing buses.
"We are in the process of securing buses. We will keep you updated." the LIRR tweeted.
