NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A plane made an emergency landing in a Staten Island park Wednesday evening just as kids were starting to show up for evening youth soccer games.
The aircraft made a safe landing just after 5:30 p.m., at Miller Field in New Dorp near a softball field by the Greeley Avenue side of the park. police say.
It wasn't immediately clear what forced the plane to land.
Emergency radio transmissions said mechanical problems may have been the cause but officials are trying to determine if the weather caused cloud ceiling to drop from several thousand feet to 400 to 500 feet.
Police say that there were no injuries reported.The plane was carrying a Geico banner which was draped on the grass.
