Police: NYC father smothered 1-month-old son with pillow

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Police have charged a Bronx father with murder after they say the dad smothered his month-old son with a pillow.

Teshawn Watkins, 27, was arrested on charges of murder, manslaughter, reckless endangerment and acting in a manner injurious to a child, police said Thursday night.

The boy was found unconscious at his home on Holland Avenue, near East 215 Street in the Williamsbridge section, on Wednesday morning and rushed to Montefiore North Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Daily News reports that his mom called 911 after she couldn't wake up her son, Kaseem Watkins. She told police that she had fed him and put him to bed. When she returned several hours later, he was unconscious.

According to the Daily News, the Administration for Children's Services was aware of allegations of domestic violence in the family.

One neighbor told 1010 WINS that she had heard a lot of commotion coming from the family's apartment in the past.

"I would hear constant banging, screaming, loud noises, yelling until maybe 1 o'clock in the morning," she said.
