NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Postmaster General Louis DeJoy will testify before the House Oversight Committee on Aug. 24 to address "sweeping operational and organizational changes," Rep. Carolyn Maloney announced Monday afternoon.
Maloney, who represents parts of Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn, is also chair of the Committee.
"I'm pleased that the Postmaster General will testify voluntarily before the Oversight Committee on Monday about the sweeping operational and organizational changes he has been making to the Postal Service," she said in a statement. "I also look forward to receiving his production of documents and other information by this Friday in response to the detailed request I made last week with Speaker Pelosi, Leader Schumer, Chairperson Lofgren, and Senate Ranking Members Peters and Klobuchar."
She continued, "The American people want their mail, medicines, and mail-in ballots delivered in a timely way, and they certainly do not want drastic changes and delays in the midst of a global pandemic just months before the election."
On Friday, Maloney, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Chuck Schumer, Chairperson Zoe Lofgren of the Committee on House Administration, Ranking Member Gary C. Peters of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and Sen. Amy Klobuchar sent a ten-page letter to the Postmaster General with a one-week deadline to produce a host of key documents and information relating to these matters by Friday, August, 21.
In addition, the Chairman of the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors Robert M. Duncan has agreed to testify next Monday.
