NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Advocates rallied in front of the Broadway Junction subway stop to protest the arrest of a woman being placed in cuffs for selling churros at the Brooklyn subway station that has now been viewed millions of times—and led to outrage about the way she was treated by NYPD officers.
Sofia Newman, the woman who recorded the vendor's encounter with police, was joined by elected officials and other protesters demanding an end to Governor Cuomo's aggressive law enforcement against low income-vendors and plans to hire 500 new MTA police.
At the news conference, protesters said they want caps on vendors removed on both the state and city levels and want an end to harassment by cops in the transit system.
