NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A fire in a two-story residence in Springfield Gardens, Queens, took the life of an 8-year-old boy early Sunday morning, officials say.
The fire reportedly broke out on the second floor at about 2:30 a.m., where the victim, Tighani Jones, was sleeping.
"We tried our best, we just couldn't get to him. Too much fire," said FDNY Battalion Chief Patrick Ginty, "The second floor was fully involved with fire when we showed up, it was coming out every window."
Seven others have been taken to area hospitals without life-threatening injuries.
Sixty firefighters fought the blaze.
There is no word yet on what caused the fire.
