NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Rep. Carolyn Maloney, the congresswoman who represents parts of Manhattan's East Side, Brooklyn and Queens, said she was briefly hospitalized Monday after feeling faint at an event because she is recovering from bronchitis "and probably should have stayed home."
"Thank you to everyone for your well wishes and concern and to the great staff, nurses, and doctors at New-York Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital," Maloney, 73, said in a statement.
She continued, "This morning, I began to feel faint at a public event, and out of an abundance of caution, sought medical attention. I am recovering from bronchitis, and probably should have stayed home. After some rest and chicken soup, I am looking forward to getting back to work for the people of New York."
After word broke that Maloney had taken to the hospital, her spokesperson said, "still waiting on final word from the doctor, but the Congresswoman is feeling better and is in good spirits. She is waiting to hear from her doctor to see when she is able to return home and continue to rest."
And about \an hour earlier, her office said in a statement, "Due to unforeseen circumstances, we will be canceling today's press conference. We aim to reschedule and will circle back with a new date shortly."
Maloney and other lawmakers were attending a community vigil about the weekend killing of four homeless men in Chinatown when she felt faint.
