NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Newark officials are investigating a suspected outbreak of Legionnaires' disease at a senior citizen building downtown.

City officials are working with the state to inspect the water supply at 2 Nevada Court that could be causing the outbreak in the building.

Legionnaires' disease is treatable with antibiotics, but for the elderly it can be particularly problematic.

City and state officials were headed to the building where three suspected cases were reported.

"This is my first time hearing it, I didn't know anything about it until I met a lady on the elevator just now," Aliyah said.

City officials are warning residents with symptoms from the pneumonia-like illness -- fever, chills, muscle aches, and a cough -- that they should see their doctor.
