NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Make way for New York’s first self-driving vehicle.

Optimus Ride, a startup founded in 2015 by graduates and researchers from MIT, is launching six autonomous vehicles at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

The cars will transport people between the NYC Ferry stop at Dock 72 and the yard’s Cumberland Gate at Flushing Avenue.

The system will run on a mile-long continuous loop between 7 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. on weekdays.

There is no charge for a ride and anyone can hop in.

Self-driving cars are legal to be tested in New York as of legislation passed in 2017.

The Brooklyn Navy Yard is a hub for tech and manufacturing, with a growing commercial presence.
