An unspecified number of students attended an “unapproved gathering” at a dorm on the university’s campus and were “not wearing masks, closely assembled and endangering not only their own health and wellbeing, but that of others,” Associate Vice President and Dean of Students Eleanor Daugherty and Executive Director of Residential Life Pamela Schipani said in a letter sent out to campus residents on Tuesday.
The attendees “are being issued interim actions and removed from housing while the University investigates the matter,” they wrote.
“These actions do not represent or speak for the 5,000 residents currently composing our residential community,” they said. “Our residential community has demonstrated an admirable commitment to follow universal precautions and keep our community safe.”
“We cannot afford the cost to public health that is associated with inviting students into a room for a late night party,” they added. “The vast majority of our students are doing the right thing — but every student needs to do the same.”
On Sunday, UConn officials said two students who moved onto campus over the weekend tested positive for COVID-19.
Daugherty on Sunday said the university has “a clear and detailed strategy in place we can quickly implement to address any positives, and have already done so in these cases.”
