NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said Thursday that more officers are likely to face discipline for their conduct during the George Floyd protests over the past two weeks.
"I took action the last couple weeks in suspending a number of officers," Shea said in a Twitter Q&A. "There will probably be more."
Two officers were recently suspended without pay over incidents Shea previously called "disturbing." One involved an officer pulling down a man's mask and pepper spraying him in the face in Brooklyn. The other involved an officer pushing a woman to the ground in Brooklyn.
The officer in the second case also faces an assault charge and his supervisor was transferred.
During Thursday's Q&A, Shea said he understood the pressure officers face but added "we cannot have people acting inappropriately."
"I know the difficult circumstances you are under. I know there are some people who don't understand law enforcement recommending things that are completely impractical," Shea said. "I get it. I know. But right is right and wrong is wrong."
