Shoppers return to stores for post-Christmas deals, gifts returns

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Starting Thursday, stores open for post-Christmas shopping and gifts returns.

Whether you have some cash burning a hole in your pocket, or want to return a gift, after Christmas sales are offering deals to get you to buy some more.

The National Retail Federation's annual December holiday consumer survey shows that 68 percent of people said that they will probably shop the week after Christmas, and 49 percent said they plan to take advantage of post-holiday sales and promotions.

27 percent of those shoppers will be using gift cards.

Gift exchanges and returns is a major reason consumers will head to stores, according to the survey. 

According to the survey, 55 percent of shoppers say they will take back unwanted gifts within the first month of receiving them and 80 percent said they prefer to make returns and exchanges in stores.These factors will cause crowds during this time. 

Some of the best deals that can be found during after Christmas sales include artificial Christmas trees, decorations, gift wrap, bags, bows and items packaged with holiday branding, which will be marked down 50 to 70 percent at most stores and will increase as the days go by.

Some clothing stores will offer some of their biggest discounts of the year, with several department stores offering coupons and in store circulars.Many tech and electronic items will be offering deep post-Christmas discounts, but if you're looking for items like a brand name big-screen TV, the the best time would be the end of January, post Super Bowl, when 2019 models begin to be discounted in order to make room for the new, 2020 models.Like 1010 WINS on Facebook and follow @1010WINS on Twitter to get breaking news, traffic, and weather for New York City.
