NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police say a teen cyclist was killed after crashing into an open car door, then getting run over by a passing box truck in Brooklyn Wednesday night.
Authorities say on May 15 at approximately 5:30 p.m., 16-year-old Yisroel Schwartz was riding his bicycle north bound on 17 Avenue when he swerved to avoid a parked car that was opening its door.
Schwartz struck the door, causing him to fall to the ground where he was then struck by a white 2013 Econoline E350 that was also heading north on 17 Avenue.
Police discovered the 16 year-old had suffered severe trauma to the head and body upon arrival.
The victim was transported to Maimonides Hospital in a private ambulance where he was pronounced dead.
The operator of the vehicles remained on scene.
So far no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
