NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A teenage transit user says he was almost killed when a piece of metal debris fell on him while he was waiting for a subway Monday.
Afnan Perviaz, 18, was waiting for a B-train at the Dekalb Avenue station in Brooklyn at about 10 a.m. when a metal plate fell from the ceiling, hitting him in the back of his head.
The object nearly killed Perviaz and covered him in dirt and debris.
“At first I didn’t realize what it was, because I stumbled a little bit, and I grabbed onto the railing on the stairs, so I wouldn’t lose my balance and fall," said Perviaz, “and the initial thought that came into my head was that I’m being robbed, or something, and like somebody hit me in the back of my head.”
The mystery object turned out to be a drip pan installed to stop water from falling onto the platform.
Perviaz said he is considering a lawsuit.
City transit says it’s investigating.
